Microphone location for telephone handsfree system

Hi,

Does anyone know where the mic is located for the telephone handsfree system please?

I am looking to get a carplay kit and it has a mic as part of the kit apparently (unique autos one) and wondered where it was to see if its worth trying to put in a similar location.

Out of interest has anyone installed one of these kits, if so does your phone still use the handsfree jag kit or the new kit for handsfree as you need to pair the device to the carplay box apparently.

any help appreciated.

If I recall correctly it's located in the facia above the speedo/rev counter. If you look up in the recess you'll see the small vent/s for it.

Taken from TOPIx....“A directional type microphone is fitted on top of the instrument cluster. It is connected to the IAM (integrated audio module) for hands free telephony and DVC (dynamic volume control) systems.”

I’ve attached the TOPIx document....‘F-Type (X152) Cellular Phone Microphone Removal and Installation’. In it you'll see the cover (highlighted in my pic below) needs to be removed.

Can’t advise on the ‘carplay kit’ so perhaps someone else can help with that?

I have the UAD kit and placed its microphone down here with some double sided velcro tape. Routed the cable under the cover of the manual park brake release in the cubby. I very rarely make voice calls in the car and mainly use the microphone for siri voice commands through CarPlay and have only paired the phone with the UAD/CarPlay device. Works brilliantly.

Just one tip about the audio out from the UAD device... it could be system version specific (mine is a MY18, using one of the car's two USB ports for the audio feed from the UAD device and had to add a ground loop isolator for the audio connection. I've seen at least one other MY18 owner who also needed that for the UAD installation. No biggie and it's just a cheap little device to add, but they should have included it in the package in the first place.
