Jaguar leather interior

Is it really leather ie from a cow? Or is it imitation leather ? Reason I ask is that the build sheet of my F type shows leather but its awfully similar to the imitation leather in my Merc saloon knock about. The latter is excellent stuff but imitation all the same.

The leather in my F doesnt smell like the leather did in the Ferrari, doesnt look like it and doesnt feel like it. So is it real?

From what reading I have done most modern car leather has a top surface coating and often a coat of “paint”. Advice also seems to be that’s this seals the surface and that leather conditioners are a waste of money as they can’t be absorbed.

I did some research before buying a scuff repair kit to fix some wear to my seat bolsters. Quite an eye opener.

A lot of the german car co's use reconstituted leather, which in my book is NOT leather. My c350 was billed as leather, felt like plastic to me.

That ties in V6r. As does the paint comment. The leather in the Ferrari smelled like leather. The stuff in the Jag feels like plastic and doesnt smell at all. In which case why bother paying extra for it?

My F Type has standard (2017MY) seats with upgrade to full leather. Having come straight from a Mercedes with their cunningly named Artico leather seats (from plastic cows), there is no doubt in my mind the Jag's are real leather. Sure they will be finished with a modern coating and don't have that slightly sickly leather smell, but for years manufacturers have added the smell artificially and obviously Jag don't.
