Jaguar Dealership Difference of Opinion on Service Due

Hi All,

My V6S MY 2016 is due for a 6 year/96,000 mile service in May.

I have been talking to a couple of Jaguar Dealerships close to me about service and costs and they are both telling me different stories.

One tells me I need an interim service (it had an interim last year), the other tells me it needs a major service. Both tell me they work on an approved JLR service schedule. The dealer saying I need an interim service tells me its because my car is low mileage (23,500 miles). The other says it alternates between interim and major each year regardless of mileage.

Plus does anyone have access to the JLR fixed price servicing schedule for cars over 3 years of age?

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks
Mike

Hi Mike,

The service schedules are to mileage or every 12 months, whichever comes first - I don't know of anyone who is doing 16+k in their F, so yearly progress it is.

A few of the dealers have removed the fixed price servicing now or ask you to add you details for a quote - however you can still find these prices online - and then use them to request a price match to your local dealer.

Prices shown = https://www.sturgessgroup.co.uk/jaguar/servicing/3-years-servicing-older-cars/

Enquire = https://www.sytner.co.uk/jaguar/car-maintenance/fixed-price-servicing-and-maintenance/

Be sure to ask if the price includes everything on the service schedule - e.g. spark plugs / diff oil / etc. where it is part of the due service for your model.

If you go to the online service history for your vehicle you can download and print the associated service schedule for your car.

Hope this helps you.

Should just be a matter of visiting https://osh.jaguar.com enter VIN and then select the Servicing Information tab. That will tell you what should be done this time round.
(Presuming everything done previously has been recorded hence why I insist the exact details of what has been done is entered by dealer).

Servicing is the greatest money spinner car manufacturers supply. Intrim/intermediate/inbetweenie; found next to Con in the dictionary. Consider how many miles you may have covered in the last year and how hard was it driven as well.

Follow the OSH link above. Beware, results may vary as it's sometimes not updated when one has had a service!

Thanks Guys,

Have checked the JLR online servicing by entering the VIN and it gives info on the 6 Year / 96000 Mile service, which is a major for the next service.

However, I have checked again with the local JLR Dealer and they insist on their bespoke JLR system it says an interim because of low mileage.

How can two JLR Dealerships say different service is due?

SORRY I DID SOMETHING WRONG WHEN I ADDED MY COMMENT, WHICH IS BELOW.

My view on servicing is, if the car is still under manufacture's, or extended warranty, is to follow the manufacture's schedule, as the warranty may be invalid if you do not. After warranty expires you can service what is necessary based on mileage, rather than time (eg. spark plugs, air and pollen filters). However I would change the coolant and drive belts at the correct time intervals as they degrade with age.

Regardless of what they call the services by name, what needs doing is on OSH, presuming whatever has been done before has been recorded and correctly done.

Yes all correctly recorded. Plus I have all the original service invoices.

just had the same service done on my v6s. spark plugs and diff oil was done on the previous service, this service was oil & filter and pollen filter the rest was checks. i was quoted around the £450-£470 mark but managed to get it carried out for £347 all in.

I agree with SimpleR you are due whatever is list on 6yr service. If we went on mileage I would still be waiting for my first service. Go to the dealer that is following the guidance, sounds like the other does not know what they are doing...

Think you are right.

The car is also covered under a warranty and I don't want to give them the chance of rejecting a warranty claim.

Just can't believe two JLR Dealerships having different views on servicing.

Cheers
Mike

Hello SESH

My F Type coupe service is due May 17th this year .... will be going to the normal place as have been happy with the service I receive plus they look after the Evoque that we have as well
Beadles southend .. they are local and for this year will get the fixed price service as the car is over 3 years old .. so a bit cheaper then normal .. I have had some small issues with this branch but they have always sorted out every thing to my satisfaction

regards
Nick

So looking at this schedule for my car .. which will be the 4th service
Notice the air filters need changing ? but a bit embarrassingly really as my car has only done 4000 miles .. was going to use more over the last 12 months but retired straight into the COVID lockdown .. was thinking of selling but currently just can't bring myself to do that .. even with all the expense and lack of use, as could not afford another new purchase for a F Type

Hi Nick,

Have tried Beadles Southend but they are quoting £370 for an interim service, they never seem very interested. They are the dealership that tell me it's due an interim. I believe my car needs a major service (6 year/96000 miles). It had an interim service last year.

Can you recommend anyone at Beadles who knows what they are doing and would be interested in my business, plus how much should I expect to pay for a major and interim service at Beadles on their 3 year plus scheme. I have always found them a lot more expensive than other dealerships and have recently been going to Grange at Brentwood.

Maybe I need to talk to a specific person there.

Let me know.

Thanks for your help.
Mike

This is my experience with my dealer posted this on another forum in January.

So got a call yesterday from Jag salesman on whether I be interested in trading up, so I said have you one to look at, not till march.Ok I said I will have a look when getting my car in for it last service of the 3 year service which was my standard warranty.
Now as I Mentioned this is the final year of my warranty, bought the car March 2018, got first service March 2019, then last year of course the covid struck so didn't get the car up in March 2020 had to wait till July due to restrictions and 3hr drive to dealers.
Today got a call would I like to get a free warranty check as it would be ending with my 3 year warranty. Now take into account we are back in lockdown again and here in Ireland 5km travel rule applies, so travel is ok for essential. I said to service guy sure I'll can get the car serviced when I'm up ,he then informed me that I would have to pay for that service as due to me going in July is wasn't a year between services and car needs 53,000km some shit like that, so just because I went up late due to the covid last year I won't get free service now if I went to them. Car has 31,000 kms now.
I explained sure we're in same position as last year due to covid and might not get up anyway till restrictions ease, he wasn't to bothered so a few words exchanged and told him I would get it serviced privately, best of all the salesman rang me back later talking about buying the new car, explained the situation and said I will be taking my business elsewhere, hard enough trying to live through this pandemic without Jaguar being so contrary.

As I said I had a 3 year service agreement with his dealer, (not looking for anything for nothing just what I'm due) who wants to renege on the deal because the schedule was missed due to covid circumstances beyond my control. Now he phoned last week and said we are still open to servicing as it is classed as essential, but would still have to pay, maybe so but we are still in 5km restrictions well unless essential, think my health is more essential than a service that can be done when restrictions ease. The car has been garaged since winter from November back on the road now next month, won't be returning or giving any business to that dealer.

Hello SESH

I have just booked my 4th service (4 year / 48000 mile ) at Beadles southend ... I always go to a chap called Gary I can't remember his surname but will find out for you. Plus I save some money as the car is now under the fixed service price agreement and the car is now over 3 years old. Plus I have a MOT as well included in the price. they follow the TOPIX service schedule for a 4th service so thi service will be both air filters .. not that they would need changing in my case but I told them to stick to whatever the schedule dictates ..
all the best
