Don’t overthink it just take it. There are lots of examples such as this where one insurer stands out from the rest with a considerably lower price. When insured mine this month it was Tesco that came out as the lowest, whereas other cars that we have they didn’t figure. SAGA did come up with my wife’s car but she was bitterly disappointed and refused to accept it because 🙄 and I quote “How dare they, I’m not yet old enough” 😂😂

Well i was reading all of the Insurance moaning posts so thought i would do a check.

I have not bought yet (Cash Waiting ) but was a bit worried so thought i would check before i buy. Cant find the right car yet.

But it all seems to have gone up, my M3 last year was £380 fully everything

I can confirm, all car insurances have risen significantly this year. If you’re unlucky enough to live in the wrong area (based on insurers view) or maybe have a BEV, read some staggering increases being quoted. With our cars found 30% uplift the norm. Did get caught out with the F-Type though, as got a quote 30 days in advance but when it came to buying only had 7 days beforehand to insure before pick up and that cost me another £120. Seems to be a common time based ploy.

I renewed with Tesco at £649 rather than Privilege at £1099. See my earlier thread in May. However, as you haven't bought yet this is a bit academic.

Just had my insurance renewal from quote me happy was a bit concerned with the price increases on the forum went up £5.00 p/a I do take a large excess £750 but only now have 2 years ncd inc uk Breakdown £292.00 7000miles p/a to add european breakdown a extra £50.00 Car is a 3lt basic in cornwall
A nice early christmas present

Insurance is an odd game, but legal evil.
Saga seemed to lose the plot about a decade ago, going from competitive to incompetent in the space of eighteen months. This seemed to be around the time they floated the business and moved their target audience. They remained uncompetitive for many years IMO.
Saga now seem to be smelling the coffee but, as has been remarked, all premiums have risen considerably over the recent past.
Lots of factors affect premiums, including time to renewal, etc., etc..

I am with SAGa Paid £ 660 last year and just Renewd for £680 this year , i was expecting a bigger increase than that so well happy

As I'm a person of a 'certain age', do you guys find that SAGA offer the best prices to us of an excellent vintage? My Direct Line quote just came through and its gone up 70% this year. Shameful!

My previous M3 went up 100% last year and helped persuade me to change cars. I did look at other insurance options and found Direct Line were actually pretty competitive on the M3, ie they were filling their shareholder's pockets, or I was helping to keep EV owners and idiots who crash a lot, in keeping their quotes down.

:I'm of a certain age and Hastings Direct was the cheapest for me. My M3 (v8) as cheapest with Admiral though. All done through go compare.

It's all fed through an algorithm and sometimes it can be a bit off or one small adjustment can make a huge difference. Other times insurers will offer a specific discount without saying so, because they want to lure you into the business, get your information, and then try and get your home, health, travel and other insurances. For A LOT of companies, even with the price rises, car insurance is a loss leader. I work for an insurance company (not personally in the insurance sector) and this is what I was told when the company decided to exit the car insurance business altogether. And the company I work for is one of the biggest so you know if there was profit to be made there they would be making it.

As others have said, take it and run.

EDIT - DAMN IT. Sorry guys. I got duped by the revival of an old thread

I tried Saga about 20 years ago and found them to be 4 times as expensive as the "run of the mill" insurers. The guy on the phone seemed surprised when I declined his "excellent deal". And I received lots of junk mail for about 6 moinths after that. I assume things have changed since then, but I don't feel inclined to risk it. ;)

Im with Saga - last year £535 - this years quote just come in at £660, but still seems the cheapest I can find

Now admittedly I live just inside the M60 ring in Manchester and I use the car for work occasionally, but I have full NCB (no claims in nearly 40 years) no points, a rather large excess (not a euphemism) and the car is parked off-road and is limited to 6k miles a year. Direct line want £1,700!!!!

Well Im just outside the M60 in Rochdale not far from you, have you tried adding an additional driver - last year that knocked £150 off my renewal price. Best comparison sites seem to be coming up in excess of £850 so probably stick with Saga (2 weeks to renewal)

I don't get insurance at all.

Last year I was a 20+ year customer with Admiral who pretty much wanted to double my insurance to £1400 so I left them and went to the AA for £850 ish. This year the AA want £1293 for renewal. Straight on to GoCompare. Who is top of the list? Admiral £610. Bizarre. I'll swap back again then!!

I am also of acertain age, but probably the oldest on here.

2022 my premium was £584, 2023 £1270, just looked at some quotes and the cheapest is £1808

In 60 odd years of driving I have never had a claim, physically very fit yet I am penalised.

I was expecting to pay more than last year as insurances have been going up like a rocket but was pleasantly surprised to pay less than last year with saga for 28% less!!!
fully comp..
15 years no claim bonus, garaged, mid 60's..it is looking more and more like a lottery.

Yes, I already do the additional driver (not that I would let him drive my car :D )
