In the garage at last

After spending a ridiculous amount converting 2 up and over doors into a single roller she is at last indoors 😀. But it sure is tight. About 8 inches space front and back. Anyone have any suggestions on padding to put on the back wall to prevent tears?

I've fitted big thin styrofoam sheets on my garage sidewalls as protection for the doors. Mostly because the sheets are white and blend in well with my white garage walls. Another easy option is a piece of carpet.

I hang a tennis ball on a string from the roof adjusted such that when it touches the windscreen I have 5cm clearance on the door.

V6S Pano roof and all that makes a pussycat purr.

Couple of pieces of 4x2 timber around 20cm long placed where the rear tyres need to be to avoid the up an over door touching the front end.
Garage is way longer than the car but without a marker I tend to reverse too far and encroach on my workspace area. I prefer to the tennis ball as I used to keep walking into that, but now I end up kicking the timber bits :(

I will in due course replace with a simple laser beam device that trips a red light when I'm 'in'
Something like this although I cannot speak for how good it is but for£13 worth a punt: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/185235886949?var=692998989409&_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D1110006%26algo%3DHOMESPLICE.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D237803%26meid%3De8a3cd779e274e78b4ebcbb24fa7aad6%26pid%3D101195%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D12%26sd%3D284587938872%26itm%3D692998989409%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D0%26pg%3D2047675%26algv%3DSimplAMLv10MlcUltbPairwiseWebMskuAspectsV202110NoVariantSeed&_trksid=p2047675.c101195.m1851&amdata=cksum%3A185235886949e8a3cd779e274e78b4ebcbb24fa7aad6%7Cenc%3AAQAGAAACMNiYJn05bd2igvwpv3t5AFHt1yjQTxgySXNvY7PDynmJp9Hidwk2TiNmT%252BiHZTbplWULnzMjICmMRvcYuOsYFQWdf2D42WT8I5Pr40VPhXKy2%252F9JehvruSXEBQsXYtV%252FaDb6n97doOVj5Kin%252FSPyh8RKd1bMHnSZV3Q0n6YV0t89tUHPVCjYKHU8BmnIC0XoyvGJayKvONBXk17WQZU%252FVqC7zlbW9Pos6TWjc9UHRhcr5CEnNNpRXC9Cn2owCiIJYFmChmdhkD6riviKn%252BUuIGs7l2KcoLa1iJLTnDfG1HcJhhv5VElC0zMoGA2Wud%252Fs0BltP7NhrFHfKV2oL%252B98khwxOlIZLF2kqF4aLB7gO8hTFpplqbUjyY%252B%252BVI5uE4dKA9jP5HQ8o9%252F6OZIzsTc%252B9iHpSuXOkBcvApp4yBk1Z1KNTmfkkmDxNog3mBPTelgZZ4xDTuZap%252BTuwgLUnjsUp%252FzDMS1MuizF5U7mvZJibgfpGoFr0Q3mTNVW2pkjhU6mzZgn5vb7xQVp6yLUS%252B%252B6E8glaVijCMPOgzaRbjaCJq2dkggmqbcaqPwmQOTyOEAOum2PwjpeR6a2Cu1m30nEan2rIv%252BSmqyKVEc8WriocYpUmB5gKA6pYvzIrC1%252Bur7rFbTBdqVH%252FYQxTlYd8%252B5mYU%252F8lhTgfuhQRictPAQMM53PxOrCjfzZMTp0RWXrlHwFBAvH59VaZIUCd7gQkaChX8L4MD%252F02RUm99G0CJa2egv%252F%7Campid%3APL_CLK%7Cclp%3A2047675

I have a larger garage so not the same problem but I have chosen to park near the door to provide more room for other activities.
My solution is quite simple and could work for you.
I park forwards - front in. IMO it is always easier to drive in, then back out.
I have an empty soda bottle hanging from the garage door opener that just touches the wind screen at my perfect stop position.
Once you have identified your sweet spot it is easy to park in exactly the same position every time.
You could simply hang a tennis ball, for example, from the appropriate overhead position.
You could also add a wheel bumper at the front end. Easy to avoid contact with anything.

I have a piece of chevron tape stuck on the garage wall that lines up with my passenger mirror as the stop point. There's also a line of the same tape along the floor, that I reverse the driver side rear wheel along using the door mirror. Inch perfect every time, as to there's a lot of crap stored behind and at the sides.

I have a small mirror on the door frame attached to an old phone mount. It’s angled so I can see the front of my car and where the garage door closes from the drivers seat, so I can get the car just inside and clear of the door easily.

Hi, i have some underlay and a piece of carpet on my garage walls, I also have a mirror at the back of the garage so you can see the front of the car when driving in.

Hi posidrive,

I've used all sorts, but this has been the best by miles as it is adjustable and doesn't rely on batteries !!

Sometimes going back to basics is all it takes.

Got mine on Amazon- Easystop Garage Kit Wheel Stop + Bumper Adjustable - Space Saving

hello gang

that's a good idea (easy stop) .. currently I use a piece of 4*2 screwed to the floor at the end of my garage .. always worked for me
best regards

After a few weeks of use I can swear by the the laser device I reference in an earlier post.
Super clear and easy in that it shines a pair of laser spots on the dash at points that show I’m
Just far enough in the garage. In my case on the centra air vent. (2 points as I used the twin car function should I be more left/right than usual.
Fitted in the ceiling it’s activated by car movement so only comes on when I reverse in.
So much better than the timber I used before or balls/bottles tapping on the windscreen.
