Hi, I am new to the site, had my V6s convertible for almost a year now we ( hubby - Neil ) both absolutely love it. Been on two European-tours and more for this year, looking for events and people of similar mind and cars in the UK hence joining<edited><editID>LynnF</editID><editDate>2015-04-10 08:31:12</editDate></edited>

Hello Lynn and welcome to the F-Type owners club.

A relatively small friendly bunch of guys and gals here from all over the UK, France and the US. We all share the same common passion with our F's - they are just great.

As an aside, we are going to take our new F-Type down through France in May with the Dorset Region Jaguar Enthusiasts Club! Our first drive abroad!, quite anxiously looking forward to it. Bought the Luggage kit in an attempt to squeeze everything in...they didn't have a box for the 100 odd pair of shoes the other half wanted to bring though ;-)

Did you have to change anything with the headlights I wonder?

Any top tips would be welcome...

Hello Lynne, nice to see a fellow enthusiast from Leicestershire. We have had our V8S convertible for 13 months now and love it! (As you know that was an understatement!!) We took her (the car) to France just a week after delivery and didn't have the hood up for the whole three weeks!

Tel, for information we asked dealers and sales staff about the headlights but couldn't get an immediate answer, however, digging into the handbook it tells us that the lights are 'level' and useable on either side of the road.
Hope this helps.

Regards to all John and Helen (it's her car!)

Hi Tel, Thanks for your response, as far as lights go just the normal European travel or light kit does nicely to give adhearance to all the car laws. Don't buy a magnetic GB sticker though. Might want a travel kettle and adaptor. Hear the procedures on the tunnel have changed recently, if you don't want to get delayed make sure you have filled in a API Advance Passanger Information form, new immigration control procedure. Our first trip was a escorted tour to the Italian Lakes with European tours, it was so good we booked 4 more trips over the next 2 years. Love Italy they really appreciate beautiful cars and let you know it. The F is awesome in the long tunnels under the mountains. Norway next in June cannot wait. Wondering what region Leicestershire comes under in the club and if any get together events planned?

Hi 777John, Thanks for your reply, yes our first trip was within a week of getting the car. Wondering what region we are in and if any get together events planned.

Thank you for the headlight information.

We will be sailing/ferrying from Poole to Cherborg (12 Jags), then a tour of Northern France, travelling down to a nice Chateau in Rennes.

I have never driven far away from the South Coast (UK), so really looking forward to it. Be a chance to put some initial 'running-in' miles on the new beast as well!

Do I need a GB sticker? (I'll make sure I get a compatible Aluminium magnet type ;-))

Hello everyone, interesting how the thread has developed.

To add my bit to the various comments - the Jaguar luggage is designed for the F type and I feel a bit pricey however it does just fit into the convertible boot space but don't overfill or you'll have problems!

I personally don't think it's worth taking headlight deflectors, show the French police the hand book and hope they accept otherwise they'll want you to fit the deflectors and make a mess of the headlights (and not work!)

We always use Brittany ferries and to date we have had no problems with paperwork - just a ticket and passports along with the car documents and you're off! The only thing to be wary of is clearance when boarding the ferry, take it carefully and you won't scrape anything.

It's amazing how many drivers don't fix GB plates, it is a legal requirement, we use GB number plates - they don't spoil the look of the car.

As far as I'm aware the breathalyser is still not obligatory, they are cheap to buy in France but they do have expiry dates - worth checking.

France requires yellow safety jackets to be carried in the passenger area - we put ours on the little coat hook behind the seats, about the only thing they are useful for!

Spare bulbs (not for the V8S - all LEDs) and a triangle are also needed.

Sorry not much room for anything else!

I hope this helps a little.

Regards from France

John

Yes, good and informative reading. Scooby, came up with the goods...£17.00 All in - Nice one!

So I think two off high viz bibs, triangle, GB sticker, V5, Passports, insurance doc is really the only mandatory equipment that I need, as you quite rightly say John, it's all LED's so no bulb kit....and not forgetting a large sticker to "Drive on the other side" in view!

As far as the luggage goes, I bit the bullet and bought it off eBay for a great saving over the RRP. Must admit the set is quite Gucci. It is quite thin though, and I guess it has to be to make it more flexible so as to 'shoe-horn' it all in!

I'm away on business and I have the laptop bag with me right now and it is rather cool in Black and Red, and of course I always put it down so that you can read 'F-Type' on the front label

Yes, could have got some cheaper luggage that would do the trick for sure, but I was swayed after seeing an early Gullwing Merc go through the auctions in the US advertised with its original luggage set, and the vendors saying how much this added value to the car...it was quite astonishing. Fair enough, it was beautiful Tan leather, but this is 2015, and my Nylon stuff will be worth a fortune in 40 years time!

Another couple of notes for France - the roads are very good but there are many quite difficult to see speed cameras, some have warnings, many do not!
If you choose premium fuel such Shell nitro be wary of service areas that only supply 95 rated fuel supplemented with ethanol. Jaguar says that up to 10% is permissible and most of the French stuff seems to be that but would suggest not pushing the engine until you find the good fuel!

Regards from a hot sunny France

John

p.s. Apologies Lynn for hijacking your thread, in answer to your question, I don't know of any dedicated F type group in Leicestershire, perhaps we should start one?

Just remembered, speed camera warning on a sat nav is illegal in France, just make sure the speed camera option is off when you're caught!
