I' thinking of acquiring an F-type and I've found this forum so I've signed up to find out all about them.

It has taken me a while to understand the changes over the years, the different "trim" levels and the various options. My only unknown is how much of a difference there is between the standard 6 way electrical adjustable seats and those with the memory function which seem to offer more adjustment?

I'm off to test drive a strong contender, a 2017 (non S) this weekend so any tips on what i should check?

I have still to find out what mine has and has not , Although I have a spec sheet some were that one day I might look at , I just like to drive it

If seat adjustment is important do check our specific cars as although some (like mine) have motor adjustment it's still manual for fore and aft.

In terms of checking it out I'd pull away quickly from a junction. If the rear wheels skip then you're driving means need an 'S' which includes the LSD :)

Welcome to the forum. To answer your question, this earlier post might be helpful.

Thanks!

To the person that pm me I can’t reply as I have only been here 5 mins....but if you can provide more details or an email contact...

By way of comparison I’m coming from an SLK (R172) 350.....

Too many hours trading auto trader and piston heads suggest the F Type is relatively poorly specced compared to my SLK 😟, hence a long search....

Please don’t take any offence...just initial impressions...

Can't say electric seats are high on agenda in any car , all this electrical stuff adds weight and complexity and more to go wrong , but the sound of a crackling exhaust and a v8 is very high on the agenda and an iconic brand eg Jag .

The F-Type has many options, so any "poor spec" is largely down to whoever first specified theirs. There are many loaded ones out there (and on my drive!) but it sounds like you've been mainly looking at base models.

But welcome to the forum, and good luck with your search!

My preference is pano roof, rev camera, front parking sensors, heated seats. Meridian upgrade and 18” or 19” alloys - prefer not to have 20”....

Still figuring out the variations on the touch screen variations re dynamic customisation...and when the Jaguar app was available

Be aware there are two Meridian systems - the 380W identifiable by being badged "Meridan" , and the 770W one, badged "Surround". I have the 380W system and find it perfectly acceptable, although I rarely use it as I much prefer to listen to the "speakers" at the back of the car! :)

The higher powered cars - the S and V8 versions - are usually properly equipped. It seems more common that people have cheaped out when speccing the downtuned base V6 and four banger cars but I can't remember ever seeing an F-Type without at least the reversing camera and parking sensors front+back. The S even has some two features - the LSD and launch control - that no other version has.

The pano roof is a must IMHO and I can't quite fathom why some people specced cars without it, unless they were extremely tall or obsessed with weight reduction. From what I've seen, many buyers (including myself when I was looking) avoid cars without a pano roof so that may affect future resale possibilities if that matters.

That said, if you focus your search on S cars with the pano roof you're most likely to find well specced examples.

The 4-pot loaner I had a few years back had launch control, so not limited to the S. AIUI, only the V8 doesn't "need" launch control.

My panoramic roof blind stays closed most of the time. I don't consider the panoramic an essential option and even think the painted roofs are slightly better looking in keeping with the original design concept? Still, it's just my opinion amongst many who do prefer the panoramic.

Gosh, I've only closed mine twice since I've had the car - both times to show my passenger how it works. Rest of the time it stays open.

Pano roof is a must for In 24k in my SLK I’ve been roofless for more than 23k....I could get a vert F type but I’m not keen on the “fabric” roof especially now my car has to live outside all year...yes I know the pano is a fixed glass panel, but at least it gives me light which I need especially in winter.

Tomorrow’s viewing is a good spec V6....but I think I’m leaning to an S..with the spec above. 2017, 2 owners, full main dealer history and 12k miles, and the bits above...

Ah, I think you already corrected me on this once before and I forgot. :) So then it's the S (RWD only) and the P300 that have it. The old RWD V8s certainly could need it but certainly none of the AWD cars.
