GearBox Issue - Flashing Letter

<p>I have had this problem several times over the past year, but Jaguar cannot seem to locate the problem. I am guessing others have seen this issue but not reported it.</p><div> </div><div>Scenario 1:</div><div>Every so often when the car pulls up to traffic lights it goes into start stop mode, when coming out of stop mode the gear letter on the stick and in the dash starts to flash. you can then no longer select a gear, the car wont move. The only way to resolve this is to turn the engine off and on again.</div><div> </div><div>Scenario 2:</div><div>Starting the car up, the engine starts and the vehicle is in Park. Select a gear (reverse or forward its happened in both cases) the car seems to go into gear and after an inch or so the gear box and display started to show a flashing letter and the car stops but the engine is still running. You can then no longer select a gear (all gear letters flash) and the only way to get moving again is to press the stop button then start again.</div><div> </div><div>Anyone had a similar problem ?</div><div> </div>
 
Not had this sorry. Although that may partially down to the fact I always switch Start/Stop off immediately upon starting the engine.
 
I did!<br />Bit embarrassing when it was in the centre of Reims in France when everybody was gazing at the car as well. Sitting at lights, engine off as in eco mode, D started flashing but when the engine restarted it wouldn't go anywhere. Panic set in, followed by fumbling to turn off the ignition & start the car again with following drivers cheesed off because of the idiot with the fancy car on English plates has caused them to get stuck at the lights again cos they turned red! Needless to say, I took off like a scalded cat with my tail between my legs!<br /><br />Obviously not as isolated an incident as I thought so I'll report it & see what they say.
 
On the contrary.<br /><br />After the trouble I had for the first three years with my XF this is nothing! I'm sure that these niggles can be sorted once the dealers become a bit more familiar with the cars but given the relatively low numbers around that will understandably take longer. Not sure however if they'll ever be able to sort out the lousy hifi (contradiction in terms!) or the car's affinity for tailpipe-crushing brick walls, but overall, its good qualities far outweigh the bad.<br />In some ways it could be viewed as a good way for Jaguar to keep their customers educated about newer models. After all, if owners spend enough time at dealerships sorting warranty issues & being given shiny new Jag courtesy cars to drive, that's a great way to introduce potential punters to their next vehicle.<br /><br />Imagine how much quieter the dealerships would be if all our cars were faultless...<br />
 
Drat, I do agree with you about the dealers getting more hands on time, but just not at my expense or loss of time not driving the car. <div><br></div><div>What scares me the most is their lack of attention to detail.</div><div><div><div>On delivery of the car I had a list of small basic jobs that were not right and had to be redone by the dealer. These included, Chrome bonnet louvers not fitted correctly and a license plate not glued on properly. <span style="line-height: 1.4;">These were all rectified but that was after two further visits...</span></div></div><div><br></div><div>Also had a more serious issue with the <span style="line-height: 1.4;">tyre sensors coming on randomly, (see my post on this) which also caused me not to be able to </span>change<span style="line-height: 1.4;"> gears. Again they fixed it but </span><span style="line-height: 1.4;">the answers they gave for why it happened was basically waffle.</span></div><div><br></div><div><span style="line-height: 1.4;">For what we have paid for these cars, </span>surely<span style="line-height: 1.4;"> we can expect the basics to be correct all be it with Jaguar in the factory or at the dealers. </span></div><div><span style="line-height: 1.4;"><br></span></div><div><span style="line-height: 1.4;">Am I expecting too much? I don't think you're expecting too much either.<br /><br />For the sort of money these cars cost the quality & reliability should be better. Three years ago I bought an Edition 35 Golf GTi. It has never once failed in any way & hasn't needed any warranty work done. If VW can get it right on a car that cost half the money, Jaguar should be able to also.<br /><br />Ok - so it doesn't look as pretty as the F but it goes nearly as well & still puts a smile on my face. Being white also, its equally good at showing up the grime too!
 
I agree, whilst niggles can happen it does seem like there are a few more than should really be acceptable. I've had two Audi TTS's, both of which weren't new and yet in years of motoring never had an issue. Nor did my first Porsche. However, my last Porsche was riddled with issues which is one of the main reasons I made the switch to the F-Type, which has had a few problems already... maybe build quality is decreasing with time?!<div><br></div><div>Don't get me wrong I absolutely love my F-Type, as a total package it is the best car I've ever owned; but I just have this underlying lack of confidence in its build quality that I never had with my German cars. I couldn't put my finger on why though... maybe it's just me.</div>
 
I have a Mercedes C350 for the week days and my F Type for the weekends, best of both worlds !!!<div><br></div><div>Cars are a bit like women, the prettier they get the higher the maintenance !!</div><div><br></div><div><br></div>
 
Touch wood - I haven't had any problems either. <div><br></div><div>I have had a few Letters of intent, the odd one telling me to renew my Readers Digest subscription, no Flashing ones though!<div><br></div><div>That said, mine is powered by Dylithium crystals and there is no physical link to the warp drive. </div>
