If there are any other Firesand owners, I'd really appreciate a pic of your car outside from roughly this angle. Trying to establish if the colour variance on mine or just the angle of light or a difference in paint tone.<div><br></div><div><img src="http://www.photo-signals.co.uk/photos/i-MVrDSPR/0/X2/i-MVrDSPR-X2.jpg" height="960" width="1280" border="0" /><br></div>

Hi Bluebird<br />I believe the variation is due to the difference in the painted surfaces. Where the bonnet is aluminium, the nose/front area is a plastic type of composition & this invariably shows up a difference in the colour shade, which is more pronounced in certain lighting conditions. Also, some colours are more susceptible than others, especially the brighter metallics. I had a similar problem with a Honda in a vivid blue metallic, but after looking further into it I found this to be a common problem. I think it's something to do with the different surface characteristics but don't know whether there's much that can be done to improve it. I guess a decent body shop might be able to advise you better though.<br />All the best.

Thanks, appreciated. The rear is also plastic but has no difference. Guess I just need to see if all cars this colour are as bad. Never had it before with the XK's.

Static charge plays an important role in the way that the metallic flakes settle, this causes pigment flotation thus changing the shade slightly.</font></div><div><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="3"> </font></div><div><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><font size="3">In your case, the nosecone may have been sprayed at a different </font><font size="3">time, cured for longer/shorter or even with a different batch of paint perhaps....who knows.</font></font></div><div><font size="3"></font><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"> </font></div><div><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="3">One thing is for sure though - you shouldn't notice any colour variance whatsoever from such a high end product. </font></div><div><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="3">If you don't notice the rear valance having any difference, I'd suggest a visit to your retailer is in order, have a polite chat to see how they can remedy your issue.</font></div>

Hi Tel,<div><br></div><div>Jag customer service have agreed to send an engineering team out to the car - hopefully next week. Will be interesting to hear what they say. I'll let you know.</div><div><br></div><div>The retailer still maintains that a colour difference is acceptable. They say many of the Jags have it though could not find one in the show room :) </div><div><br></div><div>Not sure how they will react when I also point out they will need to pay for the film to be reapplied!</div><div><br></div><div>Cheers,</div><div><br></div><div>Mike</div>

Mike,<div> </div><div>That's good news - I hope you get to meet a chap called Ian. </div><div>He's the Regional Body and Paint Manager for you and I. </div><div>He's professional, down to earth and gives a damn.</div><div> </div><div><blockquote>The retailer still maintains that a colour difference is acceptable. They say many of the Jags have it though could not find one in the show room :)</blockquote></div><div> <img src="http://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/images/converted_files/smileys/smiley36.gif" height="17" width="17" border="0" alt="LOL" title="LOL" /></div><div>That is so funny, I choked on my tea!</div><div>I have looked through JLR's literature and cannot find any option for a 'Two-Tone' car, or anywhere where it says 'There may be a difference of colour between the front, middle or rear of car'.</div><div> </div><div>It galls me to think that we have such great vehicles, yet are ultimately spoiled by a total disregard and lack of quality when it comes to the finish - It negates any of their company core 'values' if their website is to be believed. </div><div> </div><div>What on earth is going on?</div><div> </div><div>It's despicable to be even having this conversation about a premium brand car, hopefully though, efforts at this stage will ultimately benefit future owners.</div><div> </div><div>Good luck, and please, keep us informed of your progress.</div>

Maybe they should just outsource their paint work to Lexus in Japan. I'm sure it would solve these problems & the delay in the delivery times would only serve to make the cars rarer & hence more exclusive😆

what does it look like from different angles ?<div><br></div><div>my salsa red can look slightly different in certain lighting conditions, but general it looks the same.</div><div><br></div><div>Jamie</div>

Well, that was a very, very good experience. <div><br></div><div>Kevin, JLR Bodyshop senior manager, agreed when he walked out onto the forecourt that there was an issue - absolutely a noticeable difference. And, it is not acceptable to have it no matter what a dealer might say :)</div><div><br></div><div>They will not replace the bumper but will respray both it and part of the bonnet. They will do a slightly darker band where the panels meet - not noticeable but will stop the problem occurring (not sure on this so will wait to see it in the flesh!).</div><div><br></div><div><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.4;">Very nice bloke indeed - passionate about his job and spent aged going over the whole car looking at the paint and panel fit/finish. Looked at a few problem areas (where plastic panel meets aluminium at the rear QTR) to ensure nothing amiss. </span></div><div><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.4;"><br></span></div><div><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.4;">Very honest in saying about the +/- 2% tolerance in paint tone but then went on to say an unhappy customer is not something they ever want so they will try to fix stuff even if it </span>technically<span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.4;"> within the limits. </span></div><div><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.4;"><br></span></div><div><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.4;">Will update after the work is done.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.4;"><br></span></div><div><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.4;">Hold out Tel ..... this should give you hope!</span></div><div><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.4;"><br></span></div><div><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.4;">Mike</span></div>

Hi Bluebird,<br><br>Great news and, hopefully, a very positive result which is just as it should be. Does make you wonder though, as it was so obvious in your photo and to Kevin, how it got through JLR's 'rigorous quality checks'!!<br><br>Hope the finished result exceeds your expectations and trust that Tel will get his sorted out too.<br><br>Regards.<br><br>Scoobydoo<br><br><br>

Only slight problem I have found out - if they repaint the car then the PPF supplier can't warrant the film. Thus, if it is taken off in a few years and removes the underlying paint, I can't claim anything.<div><br></div><div>I have asked Jaguar about this - will they warrant the work is as good as OEM paint and thus will pay for a respray if the film damages the car in a few years. </div><div><br></div><div>I did ask about a new bumper from the factory but was told the same paint matching issue might still apply. </div><div><br></div><div><sigh> Not really the kind of hassle you need from a new car like this. Ho hum .... let's see what they do now. Thus far, it has been good so have hope :)</div>

<div><blockquote>I have asked Jaguar about this - will they warrant the work is as good as OEM paint...</blockquote></div><div> </div><div>You might want to review Selbourne's post (Jamie with the Red Evoque and F)</div><div> </div><div> </div><div>Out of interest, have a look through this short video and tell me if you notice and two-tone finishes. The paintwork on all three (not including the Project 7) are an acceptable finish, far from what's coming off the line in Coventry right now! It looks like Jamie has been in their with his sanding block and DA <img src="http://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/images/converted_files/smileys/smiley2.gif" border="0" alt="Wink" title="Wink" /></div><div>http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=CGuTHbTTxF0</div>
