F Type insurance so high??

Hi guys, I recently bought a MY18 R-Dynamic P340. When I was looking at quotes prior to buying, I ran a couple quotes on a MY17 R-Dynamic 340 and was quoted £1400. I thought this was reasonable as I am 21 with only 3 years NCD. However I have been running some quotes on the MY18 that I have bought and am unable to get it lower than £2195 with the exact same details. Not sure why this is as the two cars are identical just a year age difference. Also I have to put the details of the car in manually because if I put the registration, it sky rockets to £4000. Just wondering if anyone knows any tips on how to lower the premiums. Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers

Prices have been going up unfortunately.
Although mine went down this year.

Your age and experience will probably be the biggest factors and also every time you do a comparison this is recorded and shared to all insurance parties.

The reg and inputting details manually should not make a difference. You could also try companies not on comparison websites or a broker.

I'm 29 and have 12 years NCD, I pay £430. I do still add my parents as named drivers even though they live seperately to me. I'm also a named driver on 3 other policies so maybe that helps. Maybe you're also in a higher risk area? Not sure why not inputting the reg makes a difference though.
GPS tracker may bring it down. I have had a fantastic experience with Automatrics MTrack, using it on both vehicles and equipment. They have battery versions that require no wiring and last for years.

I have tried direct line and they wouldn’t give offer me a quote, go compare cheapest was 4k, money supermarket cheapest was 3.3k. Having an absolute nightmare🥲

First, congratulations on a great car choice. A few things to try...

1. Subtly tweaking your job title can save you £100 or more. I've compared quotes before and it does work. This may help https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/insurance/car-insurance-job-picker/

2. Putting a second driver on the policy saved me £60 for some reason.

3. Setting the start date to at least three weeks from when you get the quote allegedly reduces it, and I've seen some people say setting up a new email address reduces quotes if you've had several in the recent past - something to do with algorithms and stored data I think. Not tried either.

Personally I'd phone the insurer who quoted £1400 and see if they can honour it.

I know it's extortionate but I'm actually surprised it's around the £2k-mark at 21 with 3yrs NCB. Thought it'd be higher. I'm 41 and pay £1200 for a P450, which is bound to go up this year.

Yeah I have telematics quotes turned on but they are around £5 cheaper lol. so not much point in going for that. I also have both parents on it as well. My area is pretty quiet, not sure why that would cause it to be high. My main confusion is the difference in quotes between a 67 plate and an 18 plate. Not making much sense.

Unfortunately I work a high risk job and there’s no way of making it sound any better really lol, I have tried all the other steps you have mentioned I.e. new email address and start date 3 weeks in advance. However it’s only saving £20-£50. I have 2 other drivers (parents) on the quote and that does bring it down significantly. It just seems to have plateaued at 2.2k. Just wish I could get it down to around the same as the quote I got on the MY17.

You're actually programming the insurance sector to increase the prices. As said above each time you put in details it's all shared, so the more you do the more data they have from the changes you are making like email, parents added and no doubt you made dozens of other tweaks over the last days/weeks including changing the car, probably excess, garaging, mileage, etc. etc..
You'll be seen as a real risk, playing the system, desperate, etc. and premiums get hiked..

I'd get off the compare treadmill and call the place that offered £1400 or go to a specialist and discuss it.

Definitely worth shopping around as the algorithms are all slightly different. For example some will bundle Jaguars with JLR and get the Range Rover uplift, they have become almost uninsurable particularly in London. A broker will often get you a better deal than the comparison sites and it's the same convenience of only having to enter all your details once (I am not a broker by the way!) Take a higher voluntary excess, doesn't make that much difference in the event of a total loss anyway.

I've tried Adrian Flux in the past and they many hundreds of quids away from anything remotely reasonable. They were ok back in the days of Custom Car magazine etc.

Just had my renewal from Direct Line and it's gone up 70% to £471. Wasted a morning on the usual suspects and all seem more expensive so will have to put up with it I guess.

Renewed my insurance for a second year in a row with Adrian Flux the other day.

Last years price was £480, and my renewal came in at £620 which was still cheaper than I could get anywhere else.
Managed to get them down to £550.

Considering all the horror stories lately, I’m relatively happy with a 15% increase.

My renewal has come in at £660 thats an increase of 24% on last year but comparison quotes are coming in at over £800

Putting it on a multicar policy might help if that is an option for you. My insurance is with Admiral and I have my F-Type, my conservative work car (a VW Polo), and my wife’s car insured on the policy with both of us as named drivers on all 3. That seems to make a significant difference because two people can’t be driving all three at the same time. Also my commuting and business mileage is only on the Polo, the F-Type is social domestic and pleasure only and a much lower annual mileage on the insurance.

I put my wife on, saved me £50 until the insurance came back to me and told me I hadn't declared the 3 points she had on her licence for a 30mph infringement, something she didn't tell me. It cost £75 to cover the admin fee to amend the policy plus the extra to account for her penalty!!! 😂
I should clarify this was a different car. I do have her as a named driver on this one but she refuses to drive it anyway.

I just done my renewal this week, paid around £800 last year with a lot of messing around swapping different F types on and off the policy 🙄 I checked comparison sites to get idea on price surprised several options around £550 - 560 got renewal quote from current insurance company they wanted £960 to renew, thing was they were one of the companies quoting £560-560, I couldn’t understand anyway called them and we finally agreed on £565 I was determined to change companies regardless of any discount offered on the £960 renewal quote but I couldn’t let principles get in the way of a near £400 saving could I 😂😂😂

You may wish to get her to drive it. If she never does, which you indicate, then the insurer can accuse you of 'fronting', invalidate the policy and even press fraud charges, according the the ABI. Seems future premiums will be increased and you'll need to find another insurer. All probably unlikely unless you put in a large claim, which they wish to dispute and do some digging, then it gets expensive.
The non declaration has already cost you..
I'm all for saving a few pounds, but not at risk of an F Type's value.
