Hi all, Currently have a 2006 XKR convertible which is my 7th Jag I've had and really cant grumble about it. I went to my local Jaguar dealer who I've used for many years and they kindly lent me this stunning F-Type V6-S in Italian racing red for the weekend just gone. It has simply stole my heart. I just didn't want to give it back , everything about this car I loved. The intimacy of the cabin , the noise , the looks , the handling and the kudos of driving such a machine its simply stunning.

So... my local dealer has offered me a decent price on my xkr , approx. £20k

I'm pretty convinced the V6-S is the model I want , and I definitely want the convertible.

My only worry is if its the right time to buy.. Seen a few V6-S models with 3-4k on the clock for around 55k which means with the part chop id have to put about 30k ish in the pot.

Based on previous Jags ,they seem to half in price after 3 years but some reviews seem to think the F-type could buck the trend. My XKR has lost me £20k in 4 years. Do I wait a year , do I do it now , heart saying sod it go get one , head saying maybe wait...

Does anyone have any opinions on how well these cars may / may not hold value.?

Hi Steve,

There is a good chance that the residual value will be quiet good, if you compare with the Porsche residuals, which F Type is running agasint, however more importantly, it is also about supply and demand and currently the supply is very limited. My local dealer, who is one of the larger suppliers in the UK, are only being offered around 5 to 6 F-Type's per month from Jag, most orders for new ones are requiring a 4 to 5 month wait minimum. I am yet to see another one on the road !

My advice, go with your heart and get one now ! The V6S is the best balanced and drivable car, the V8S is an animal and cannot be driven to it limits on UK roads, unless of course your name is Jenson !

Best of Luck with your choice,

Jamie

Thanks Jamie ,

Ill be sure to let you know what I do..

feel like ive lost an arm since handing it back :-/

Hi Steve,

I'm late to this thread, but having been through the same thought process I decided if I ever let my head rule my heart over buying a car I may as well buy a Citroen C1. Very practical. Great fuel economy. Cheap to service etc etc. But we only live once. Let your heart rule your head and you really won't regret it. I love my V6 S Coupe. Only had it since Friday, but wow, what a car.

One XF and 2 XK's later .... they will definitely drop. The convertible shows signs of it now ... wife gets cross every time!

However ... unless the money breaks you then it can't be taken with you when you leave this mortal coil. My daugher is already worried I am spending her inheritance.

Hi Steve
Get it now! There's always something special about having a new car, even if it's something fairly common on the road. However, when it's an F-Type it's a much better feeling. It's not common, but it is loud, lairy & good looking & the whole driving experience just lifts the spirit! It's also less likely to give you grief (unless you reverse it into a wall!). If you can afford it, have it. You're a long time dead & one of these will make you feel as if you're just that little bit further away from it.

I squandered my life savings on an F-Type, everything. What the heck, you only live once and you never know when your time is up!

Do it!

I bought a second hand V8S for the same price as a new V6S (roughly) with all the options I wanted.

If you are worried about residuals get a lightly used second hand one.

- Pete

Hi guys , to confirm I did buy a used v6-s which I put on a new post a few weeks back , Life is definitely too short not to have one !

Well, no one has volonteered to give-up their F Type in BRG and Camel . I'm waiting for the ok from the leasing company which should come through on Tuesday. And due to lack of 2nd hand cars in my favourite livery I will have to buy new a 2016 V6 340 hp. . Ok we all need to justify our choices so heart and brain can cooperate without too many conflicting emotions . My children are ok that I spend my money on THAT car. They look forward to inheriting it

Steveo35 - Don't let the side down, hat, gloves (or heated steering wheel) and the heater on MAX, even more excuse to show we will not be like the gazzillion other MX5 drivers and hide when it's cold ;-)

lol , I like your style... I have had the hood down a few times in November , with the heated seats on etc its not so bad actually.
Maybe some suitable headwear is in order

Leather aviator helmet, goggles & white Biggles scarf with a wire in it to keep it in position. Nothing like being even more noticed!!

I was looking a few weeks ago for some suitable head/ear protection for driving with the hood down in the winter and stumbled across these... I thought they were fab but the Mrs wouldn't let me get them... I cant think why not?
