Exhaust valves issue. Where is my vacuum pump?

I’ve been out in the Jag today, to a car show and noticed that it is loud all the time, the exhaust valves won’t shut!

The car is a 64 registered V6S, 2015 model year I believe. I thought it had the earlier vacuum pump operated system, but now I’m not so sure.

First, the valves are free moving and not loose or squeaking in any way. I removed the rear silencer and can’t see any issue with them.

So, I looked up a diagram on this forum from a previous thread that showed a schematic of the pump operated system. Expecting to see the pump/reservoir behind the left rear wheel arch liner, I removed the wheel and liner, but all I see is a small valve arrangement at the rear of the wheel arch where the pipes from each valve go to. It has a pipe that is taped to the inner wheel arch, disappears under the car at the front of the wheel arch.

I was expecting a pump and reservoir as described in the topix diagram I saw.

Could my car have had the tsb carried out that removed the vac pump? Any clues to this being done.

There are no fault codes logged.

Were you in dynamic mode? That age of car would probably have the valves open all the time in that mode.

Yes, nothing seems to be adrift. I’ve established that my car has had the tsb to delete the vac pump gubbins, or was built with the engine vac supply.

I suspect the solenoid unit at the rear of the wheel arch is the problem.

I’m going to refit the exhaust box, and start it up whilst on the stands, and have a closer look at what’s happening or not.

I’m looking for any diagnostic information to help me decide if it’s a solenoid issue, such voltages to check etc?

All fixed. To be honest I’ve no idea what I fixed, but the valves are now working. I suspect the process of lubrication, and disconnecting the solenoid fixed either a bad connection or the valves. At least I now know my car has had the tsb to delete the vac pump applied.

Changed the differential oil whilst I was down there.
