Driving abroad with Pixel lights

Although the lights maybe wouldn’t pass an EU “MOT” for export they are fine for general driving abroad.

You will need to turn off auto high beam assist - or set it to LH / RH side of road if you have that option.

And don’t forget that you need a high vis for each passenger (to hand, not in the boot) when driving through France - although not a breathalyser now.

Also that a magnetic UK sticker won’t be of use on the back of an F-Type. ;)

Good reminder for folks venturing into France/Europe. in addition there's a raft of other things to take and do from copies of insurance, clean air sticker CRIT'air (depending on where in France) V5 logbook, MOT certificate, warning triangle, spare bulb kit recommended, although not sure how you do this with later gen headlights.

Good points. Spare bulbs shouldn't be relevant for our cars.

Another potential thing is a toll tag. That's a god send especially on French toll roads if you travel during the holiday season when there can be long queues to the toll booths where you pay manually. I've used such tags for ages, have one that works in a whole bunch of countries and am always baffled by how many people, also French, still pay manually.

Also bring along some awareness about the utter shittiness of most French underground car parks. :) They mostly have narrow winding driveways bordered by high sharp concrete edges which will easily curb the hell out of your rims in a wide car like the F-Type unless you're extremely carful. I rarely use French parking garages unless I've done some due diligence before. It's a bit funny to see how different the Germans' approach to such car parks is. They of course also have some bad ones, but often the edges are sloped, sometimes covered in rubber, pillars are often padded etc.

The UK sticker is only necessary, as a supplement to a UK identifier on the numberplates, for Spain, Cypres and Malta by the way. If you've got a full-size plate then get a set of the small numberplate stickers, as they are far more discrete than the white UK stickers.

The Jag manual specifically states, for driving abroad, that you should rotate the headlight switch away from you one click, from 'neutral/auto' to 'dipped' for LED headlights.

Otherwise, the AA has a list of the things you need for the most common countries here - https://www.theaa.com/european-breakdown-cover/driving-in-europe/country-by-country

If you're going to be going into cities in France, it's worth applying for a Crit-Air certificate/sticker. It's only a few quid and took less than a week for mine to arrive. It lasts the lifetime of the car and enables you to enter those low-emission cities without fear of getting pulled - https://www.france.fr/en/article/crit-air-anti-pollution-vehicle-sticker/#how-do-i-get-a-critair-sticker-4

If you're going to be driving by yourself, I'd strongly recommend buying a set of tags from emovis. These will let you get through all the motorways in France, Spain and Portugal without having to get out of your car (or, in the case of Portugal, avoid getting fines as a lot of the toll motorways are automated with no booths) - https://www.emovis-tag.co.uk/ . The tag isn't necessary for the automated tolls in Portugal though, you just need to register your details here - https://www.portugaltolls.com/en#como-pagar

EDIT: And other peeps posted much the same whilst I was putting that together!

Just had a look and the Eurolites stickers have been updated to included the Jaguar Pixel LED headlights

Table here - http://www.motoring-into-europe.co.uk/halfords/download/travel-spot-latest-vehicle-listing.pdf
Fitting here - (#259) - http://www.motoring-into-europe.co.uk/halfords/fitting.html

They weren't there the last time I looked so I didn't fit them but I don't recall driving in the dark when I was over there, so I wouldn't have pissed anybody off anyway!

The F-Pace with Pixel headlights has this in the manual.
Might be worth checking.

Odd it is in F-Pace manual but not the F-Type.
But glad it's sorted.

The information is in the online manual under Adaptive Driving Beam (ADB) instructions. It should set itself based on where the Satnav detects the car's location.
