deep almost sub sonic knocking noise

i have in the last couple of days i have noticed a very deep quiet or muffled knock at low speeds ( not when im pulling away from a stop) .i have read about the dreaded diff issues and wondered exactly what does the knock sound like? also can the diff issue feel like the wheels need a balance? i thought i needed a balance but having had the wheels powder coated they balanced the wheels before they put them back on.. but i still have the vibration but not constant.
its only just started and sounds not dissimilar to something rolling around in the boot but sort of muffled in a way almost like that sound of a sub bass bin three cars away.( best description i can come up with)

Have you done anything to the car just before the time it started? Put a bowling ball in the boot? ;)

Any chance you could post a recording of the sound?

recording didn't pick it up .... you feel it more than hear it.... i think could be rear suspension possibly but it could be a quirk of the car perhaps...... il get someone to give it. the once over.

Had a similar noise on my XF
Very deep base like knock. Not wheel bearing or diff type noise
Jaguar had directional mikes installed and recorded rear underneath for a few days. Turned out to be rear suspension bushings which was surprising on a then only 2 year old car. Replaced entire rear suspension under warranty and never had noise again

Hopefully not the case as I dread to imagine the cost

did it only knock when the car was hardly moving i e inching forward in stationary traffic or edging off or on the driveway ? once rolling along i dont notice it.

There is another possibility which you only hear going slowly.
Petrol "slop" in the tank.
Brim the car and see if it still happens.

I only heard it driving slowly, typically in town centres, traffic moving slowly or gentle driving. I assumed was drowned out by increased general noise at higher speeds
Never happened in the suspension stressed situations such as reversing on lock, but did dropping off a tiny kerb, or small pothole, uneven road, etc.

Check the bolts are tight (one at either end) on the two short black struts under the bonnet (at the top of engine bay, easy to access). I read that someone had a knocking noise at low speed and it was a loose bolt/s.

Hi, did you ever get to the bottom of this?

Just bought a 2019 v6s awd, on Wednesday and noticed this exact noise in mine!

Thought it was the dodgy sub woofer going off! :D

I have the EXACT same problem. I’m booked in at a dealer but I have little faith they’ll find the problem first time. It’s a muffled ‘knock’ and a tiny jolt in the car as I slow down at slow speeds when sitting in traffic or between speed bumps. When it first happened I thought something was rolling around in the boot.

Did you find the issue? I hear differential and suspension bushings - but would love to know of a successful outcome. 2013 V6 Convertible.

Since yours is a 2013, it may be missing the spring "isolators sleeves". My knocking noise was diagnosed by Jaguar, there's a TSB document explaining it. That said, mine always did it from the day I got it, wouldn't be something which develops.

Did anyone get to the bottom of it? I bought my 2014 f type v6s 2 days ago and I get the same. Thought it was something in the boot, it wasn’t. I had low rank, so then I refilled it but it carried on. I get it going around London in traffic between one pothole and another so I think it’s the same you guys are getting. I’m probably going to bring it back to the dealer for a check

I had the rear subframe bushes replaced on my old 2013 V6S 3 years ago and that resolved the knocking\clunking noise I got when pulling off and working up the gears under light load. I was convinced it was either the diff itself or had heard it could have been spring isolators. However, the garage ratchet strapped the subframe so there was no movement and let me drive the car. Within 50 meters it confirmed what they were saying.
