Convertible F-Type in automatic car wash

Good morning everyone,

I've had lots of people give me their opinion on whether or not its ok to wash a soft top convertible in an automatic car wash. So I figured I would come to the place where people know. My question is, is it ok to wash my convertible F-Type in an automatic car wash, or could the car wash damage the convertible top?

Hi Roger
Wouldn’t advise it. For the sake of 2 quid why not get a local hand car wash to clean it?

Auto car wash about £3
Hand car wash £5

I’m assuming from the original post that your not massively concerned over swirl marks and acidic cleaners damaging paint / wheels (if you are, then find a proper 2 bucket car wash but more pricey at around £15 a go, or clean yourself)

To answer your question directly; It is fine to wash your convertible in a car wash.
The sensors these days mounted in the new auto washes are very sensitive to the contours of car shapes.
The rollers use soft 'ish material in that won't damage the material either.

I think we (owners) are most probably all a bit dismayed as to why you would want to auto wash it as opposed to caressing it with a sponge ;) , but I guess we're all different.

:'( you -can- assuming all is working as it should, but I would not partly because what if it's not all working as expected, partly aarrrrgghh the swirls and partly as my roof seals don't always seem quite 100% and I wouldn't want to discover that half way through a wash.

My Jaguar owner's manual advises against using auto car washes as over time they "dull the paint".

I'm a full time car detailer and you can guess my thoughts on taking your car to a local car wash, let alone the auto car washes.

...just remember to put the heated rear screen on to avoid any streaks from the dripping water ;)

T'was -1 this morning and still a topless drive in to work :D
