Best new tyres now & mixing R/ZR

Clumsy

After having the cat for just over two years now it's finally time to replace the tyres - not done loads of miles but starting to do daily work commute again so it's going up!

I've currently got Pirelli P-Zero on all 4 but with 245/40/R19 on the fronts and 275/35/ZR19 on the rears. First thought was, is that really ok to mix R and ZR tyre ratings like that?

Second thought was, what's the best overall tyres for the money to get right now? I've seen lots recommending the Michelin Sport 4S over the last few years. Are those still top of the list? Other ones i'd was wondering might be up there would be the 5S ones and maybe the Eagle F1. Can't say i've been blown away by the P0s so happy to try something else!

Appreciate any feedback :)

There isn’t a 5S - there’s an S5 but not readily available yet other than as OEM fit new.

The 4S is quite an old design now but still takes some beating - alternative options would be the 5, or my preference is the Conti SC7.

Folk on the US forum rave about the Continental SportContact 6 and ExtremeContact DWS 06.

IMHO the MPS4S is still the go to choice, but I would also compare to the Conti SC7.

The Conti DWS 06 is an all season tyre and I don't think I'd put all season tyres on a car like the F-Type.

Nope, that’s a double compromise - just get the best summer and winter tyres and enjoy your cat all year round 😉

Couldn't agree more. :) For >7 degree temps you have a good set of summers and for <7 degree temps you have a good set of winters. Simple. In my case it's 20" MPS4S for most of the year and 19" Pirelli Sottozero 3 for the colder winter months.

I've seen some soulless school-run SUVs that come from factory on all season tyres, which may be acceptable but it seems quite uncommon on this side of the pond to put all season tyres on proper cars while it seems more common over there which probably is why some of our friends over on the US forum rave about all seasons.

Any thoughts on the R / ZR mixing between front and rears? I would've thought same on all 4 is standard?
