battery

disconnecting and re-connecting the battery. The only reference in the owners manual is an instruction to take the car to the dealer which is obvious nonsense. So, apart from the simple physical connecting, what needs code numbers to re-install? Radio? Alarm? Where are the numbers input? Anyone know?

With my previous car (Mercedes) you had to be careful with disconnecting/connecting a new battery because there was a risk a voltage spike/surge would blow some of the sensitive electronic modules.
(Jump starting was also an issue for the same reasons. Plain jump leads were a no no. The type with a surge protector were ok.)

I think the side windows needs recalibration, but that is an easy task (don't remember the procedure, but it's all done with the window operating buttons).

Not shure if you will need to do much more...?

I have no doubt that they do just that ;-)

There is no possible "voltage surge" connecting a battery. All its got in it are 12.8 volts. The real puzzle is what else requires some sort of "initiation" procedure. With the Fezza you had alarm / immobilser to recode as well as the radio plus issues like the windows and the ECU re-learning. So you had a couple of codes with the car. I have none with the F type.

I'll chase the dealer.

Can i ask the obvious question of why would you need to disconnect and reconnect the battery?

For the winter time its easier than messing about with a CTEK. But the main reason for asking was to establish whether I had all the necessary code cards etc. The 430 that I had came with two, and it was a serious issue if one was missing since no alarm / immobiliser code meant replacing both engine ECUs at a cost of several thousands.

I see. Excuse my ignorance on the topic. I brought my 400 sport to drive it hence the confusion. I'm guessing a lot of you garage your cars for 6 months over winter then. My friend does the same with his 911.

Howard,

Can 100% say fitting/using a CTEK is easier & less time-consuming than messing about with the batteries 👍

Agreed. Fitting a CTEK or similar battery charger is literally undoing and redoing two screws/bolts. If you have a search on here there's even someone who posted a link up to the PDF of which ones you need to use :)

there ^^

My Ctek plugs into the "fag" lighter socket on left hand side of the boot. Been there for 2 months now. Cable trapped by boot seal which is very soft, so no issues there
