Accelera tyres

TOTAL NEWBIE here, so please don’t pounce on me like a bunch of, well, jaguars…..

I’m picking up my MY2016 V8 AWD on Monday. The rear tyres must have been very bald, because the jaguar dealership have fitted a pair of brand new tyres (possibly to get it through its MOT)

Thing is they are ‘Accelera’ brand.

Now, opinion varies on these boots. Some say they’re ditchfinders. Some say they’re MAJOR DITCHFINDERS.

I’m loath to throw away brand new tyres. The fronts are over halfway worn P Zeros.

Should I

(a) just bite the bullet and swap the whole lot for a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4S s
(b) swap the ditchfinders onto the front, and see if I survive the week
Or
(c) do nothing

Again, folks….. be kind. I’m just trying to learn from your experience

Wondering why a Jag Stealer would put non-OE tyres on there? You won't be able to swap the front/rear tyres around as they're different widths

I imagine in the dry, unless you are pushing it, they should be ok but i wouldn't risk it in the wet, depends how you are driving. I've conti sc7 all round and i dont really push the car but then even with awd and 800nm of torque im respectful in the wet.

Don't take delivery with non OE tyres or negotiate a discount, replace them with OE and sell the Accelera on ebay. That's what I would do.

We were buying a LR and the dealer was going to put cheap tyres on it, we paid to upgrade them to "proper tyres" at little cost to us.

never heard of them

i recently went from P Zeros to PS4S's for the first time, and while i'm not Lando Norris i find the PS4S's do ride slightly more comfortably

A main Jaguar dealer should only be installing original manufacturer tyres. And no you cannot swap front and rears as sizes.

I feel quite strongly about this.
Main dealer fits non OE tyres. It is a performance car. Different manufacturers front and rear. Accelera are £95 each against £290 for Michelin P4S’s. I would be very robust with the dealer, put OE tyres or equivalent or I would walk.
It is a buyers market and there are plenty of good cars on proper tyres out there. This is not how to treat customers.
Good luck with the outcome and let us know how you get on.

Really sorry for the thread hijack V8.COM, but I didn’t want to start yet another “which tyre thread” - quick question Conti Sport 7 or MPS4 for the rears on a V8S
Thanks

OK guys, thanks for all your input.

As it turns out, the matter has resolved itself.

Long story, but I’m buying a P380 V6 AWD instead.

(It’s fitted with P Zeros, but first chance I get I’m going with a full set of PS 4 Ss)

AWD so if there is more than 20% wear and one tyre gets irreparable damage, all four should be replaced with new. The front and rear tyres will be different sizes so you won’t be able to swap front to back. It’s a performance car, so you need a set of performance tyres on it. The dealership bungs on cheapo tyres just to make it pass the MOT and only the ones that they have to change for that purpose. I had the same issue when I picked up mine back in March (ie new cheapo’s on the back and only just legal on the front) and I had a new set of four Pirelli P-Zero ZR’s ( J - Jag only ) fitted, cost £1k after getting a discount of £100 because I was buying a whole set. The windscreen wiper blades also needed replacing at the same time. Michelin Pilot Sport 4S is the holy grail of tyres for the F-Type, but about £400 more than the Pirelli P-Zero ZR’s which are also excellent performance tyres. Go to your local most reputable tyre place or your trusted independent garage, not a dealership to get them done (you pay extra unnecessarily at the dealership!)

Not sure that applies to Jaguar's implementation, just make sure each axle pair has similar tread depth. Remember AWD is mainy RWD until the car thinks the front needs to do some pulling.

It is definitely the case for my wife’s Audi S4 quattro. I assumed the same would apply for AWD F-Type. Seems not? All 4 of mine needed replacing anyway; fronts were really worn and the rear ones were cheapo’s. Now got new P-Zero’s on all 4 corners.

I'm surprised that matching tread depths is suggested because of diff or AWD. Most of the time the diffs will be working a bit even if the tyres are exactly the same. For grip I understand that matching is preferable but not for diff wear?

A work colleague some years ago had a Vauxhall Calibra with 4WD which used to resort to FWD if it found any imbalance in wheel rotation. He discovered that "feature" after he'd replaced a half-worn punctured tyre and got up to 50 mph when he'd hear a clunk and it cut the rear power. Very expensive puncture, and it wasn't a company car!
